Our Bite-Sized Blurbs are our honest opinions about a local restaurant, bakery or café that aren’t part of a larger Gracilianca series! Bon appétit!

The focus of this bite-sized blurb is Fox Burger, a burger emporium located in the historic Gibbard Block in the Highlands area!

Location: 6423 112 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5W 0N9

Items on the menu: C ordered the Highlands Green burger, which comes with smoked provolone, cucumber salad, charred pickled red onions, basil aioli & iceberg lettuce, served on a toasted sesame bun (normally $17; at the time of ordering Fox Burger was doing an online take-out special for $14!) with panzanella salad (additional $2).

G ordered the Bleu Cheese Tomato burger (pictured above), which includes bleu cheese aioli, tomato jam, charred pickled red onions & iceberg lettuce (again, normally $17 but with special promo, $14) with Thai cabbage salad (additional $2).

Tell me more: Fox Burger is under the canopy of Black Box Hospitality Group, which is ran by Nate Box and his business partner Mike Forgie. Black Box Hospitality Group is also responsible for what was formerly known as Elm Cafe (transitioned to Speedy’s Cantina, which according to Google is now permanently closed), District Bakery (which still appears permanently closed), and June’s Delicatessen. At the time of writing this review, Fox Burger’s hours are Sun-Thurs 12-9PM, Fri & Sat 12-10PM. They do accept reservations which can be booked via their website!

So, how was it? We ordered ahead of time using their website, which was a pretty easy process! As mentioned above, we also got $3 off our burgers each for ordering take-out via their website (check their website and social media for mentions of promotions). When we arrived at Fox Burger, our order was packaged and ready to go! Easy peasy!

For our rankings, we will be looking at a few categories, taste, presentation, and value!

TASTE:

C: 4.75/5 - You know when you take your first bite, and you feel like you’ve gone to burger heaven…? That’s how I feel whenever I eat Fox Burger. It’s JUST SO GOOD. This was my first time trying the Highlands Green burger, and I loved it! The patty was flavourful, and the blend of the basil aioli, cheese, and vegetables was perfect. I also loved the panzanella salad - the whipped ricotta and tomato vinaigrette was absolutely amazing!

G: 4.75/5 - I absolutely adore Fox Burger! This is easily one of my favourite burger places in Edmonton, and it’s never left me disappointed. The burgers are always tasty and flavourful, and the Bleu Cheese Tomato burger is no exception!

I first tried this burger last year based on its rave reviews, but was a little skeptical - while I don’t mind blue cheese, I’m not the world’s biggest superfan of it either. However, I was totally floored at how delicious it was! This is now the second time I’ve had the Bleu Cheese Tomato, and I can confirm it still lives up to that first impression. The blue cheese flavour is there, but is very subtle, and works great together with the tomato jam, pickles and onions to make for an unforgettably tasty bite! The Thai cabbage salad is also a great complement to any burger, packing lots of crunch and fresh flavours, with a tahini vinaigrette.

PRESENTATION:

C: 4/5 - The burger and salad were packaged separately, in appropriately sized containers. Our food was labelled and assembled nicely in a paper bag. The burger did not look as beautiful as it does when you dine-in and they plate it for you, but overall, it was still pleasing to the eyes.

G: 4.25/5 - I appreciated that everything was packaged separately and labelled; no space was wasted, and our food was easy to transport without coming apart. No complaints.

VALUE:

C: 4.5/5 - I feel like $16 for a burger + side was not bad! Keep in mind that normally this would have been $20 + tax - for a lunch/dinner meal, and that is not a bad price. Of course, I did choose to be “healthy” and add a salad for $2 extra, so if you were getting garlic fries, then normal price would be $17 + tax for a burger & fries. I also feel that this is an appropriate place to mention that their garlic fries ARE delicious. If only I wasn’t trying to be healthier…. ;)

G: 4.25/5 - Fox Burger is not necessarily the cheapest burger place in town, but their quality is hard to beat - and the $14 promo definitely sweetened the deal! No regrets spending $$ here.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Would you order from Fox Burger again?

C: A million times over, yes! I would rank Fox Burger as the #1 burger place in town right now. I love the food, service has always been consistently good, and I enjoy checking out the other shops around in the Highlands area (to mention a few: Kind Ice Cream, Majesty and Friends Boutique, and Be-a-Bella Candy and Gifts!). It’s a great place to explore, and it’s also a beautiful area to take a walk around the neighbourhood and enjoy the views… to burn off some of the calories from the burger I just inhaled! And if you are visiting Fox Burger during the warmer months, they also have a BEAUTIFUL rooftop patio!

G: A resounding yes - Fox Burger is the bun for me! Always stoked to support an awesome business close to home in Highlands, and I will definitely be back to try their other burgers (shoutout to the Fox Cheeseburger and C’s burger, the Highlands Green, which I’ve also really enjoyed - it’s great with the veggie patty if you’re looking for a meatless option!)
