Hello gorgeous Edmontonians! With Easter just around the corner, we took it upon ourselves to perform an epic Easter Egg Showdown, with the purpose of finding out which chocolate easter egg in the grocery store takes the crown! We organized a blind taste where each type of chocolate egg was bagged individually, and had our coworkers rank these and provide commentary. So come along with us on this tasty journey, see if you agree with our picks if you’ve tried these before, and if not, bookmark this review for next year to be on top of the “egg” game!

Location: Our work office!
Items on the menu: In no particular order: Hershey’s Eggies, President’s Choice Eggs, Cadbury Mini Eggs, M&M Peanut Butter Eggs, Kit Kat and Ferrero Rocher (caramel flavour).
Tell me more: Our first contender, Hershey’s Eggies, claim to be made of a “delicious creamy milk chocolate in a crunchy candy shell” and proclaim themselves “perfect for egg hunts, baking, Easter baskets, candy bowls, decorating or gifting”. Is that true, or a sweet egg-xageration – stay tuned!
Our second entry, the President’s Choice Candy Coated Milk Chocolate Eggs rings in modestly, making no bold claims about their gift-ability on their website. Notably, this was the lowest cost egg. Will their no-frills approach pay off?

Cadbury Mini Eggs pull no punches by identifying themselves as being made with “famously rich and creamy milk chocolate, covered in a crisp sugar shell.” As another nod to their confidence, they are available all year round! Will the OG of chocolate Easter eggs prevail?
Coming in fourth are the M&M Peanut Butter Eggs. M&M suggests that we “Easter together with M&M’s Candy” and recommends these for “all the peanut butter lovers out there”. Are these all that they’re cracked up to be? Stay tuned!
Kit Kat “Hide Me” eggs defeated the blinding of this test, as they were individually wrapped. Nestlé mentions that these milk chocolate eggs are “filled with pieces of crispy wafer” and are “perfect for Easter egg hunts, gift baskets or enjoying a break”. Are these novelty eggs worth getting egg-cited about?
Last but not least are the Ferrero Rocher eggs, which are “crispy eggs…individually wrapped for your enjoyment”. The blind was also broken with these eggs, and they came in at the highest cost, as well as the highest caloric punch. Do these bougie eggs taste as egg-quisite as they look?

So, how was it? Given the nature of this egg-cellent showdown, our rankings will be broken down differently today! We had each participant rank each egg on a scale of one to five, and have tallied up the scores to see which egg ranks supreme. The maximum score one egg could get is 60!
Note that at some point we ran out of Ferrero Rocher eggs (we told you they were bougie!) so to keep things fair, they will be excluded from the formal ranking.
In joint last place:
A surprising tie between President’s Choice Eggs AND M&M Peanut Butter Eggs! Easily the most polarizing of the bunch, both of these eggs scored a total of 30.5 each. Comments about the PC Eggs included “weird shell” and “too crunchy”, though two of our coworkers ranked them as their favourite! If you like a textured crunch with your chocolate, these are probably your best option – and good to have as a favourite, as these are the most bang for your buck!
The M&M Peanut Butter Eggs were another hit or miss with our friends. Three coworkers ranked them as clear favourites (“I love peanut butter + chocolate!”) and a few others ranked them dead last, with at least one of our cowrkers commenting that the peanut butter taste was “too potent”. If you’re a fan of PB, we suggest giving these a try – but if not, your cash is better spent elsewhere!

In third place: Hershey’s Eggies! These eggs fell into the middle-ish of the pack with a total score of 33. They didn’t rank as anyone’s most nor least favourite, and didn’t elicit much commentary from our audience. While they didn’t knock anyone’s socks off, in a pinch, these will certainly do!

In second place: Kit Kat “Hide Me” Eggs! Coming in with a total score of 38, these were also a very polarizing choice. They either scored very high (were the favourites of two of our friends, and a close second for 4 in our group) or very low (“why does this even exist?” someone asked). One piece of consistent feedback was the wish for more wafer-y crunch, but if you’re a fan of Kit-Kats, you might find these to be right up your alley!

First place: Cadbury Mini Eggs! By far and away the highest ranking egg was the OG Cadbury Mini Egg, with an overall score of 51.25. This captured top score from seven of our coworkers and was the undeniable champ. If you have to pick one egg for your stash, these are the ones – Gracilianca approved!

Honorable Mention: Ferrero Rocher. Despite only being tasted by 10 out of 12 participants, these still beat our our joint last-place finishers with a score of 31.75, which makes us wonder how things might’ve shaped up if we had enough of these to level out the playing field! While not as universally loved as the Cadbury Mini Eggs, these still scored quite high, as a complex, sweet take on the chocolate easter egg. Give these a try if you’re feeling adventurous – and if caramel is not your thing, there are other flavours too!
