Our Bite-Sized Blurbs are our honest opinions about a local restaurant, bakery or café that aren’t part of a larger Gracilianca series! Bon appétit!

The focus of this bite-sized blurb is the cheesecakes at Swiss 2 Go! Yes - those teacup-shaped cheesecakes made famous by Buzzfeed’s Bring Me! series a couple of years ago. These were purchased as birthday gifts for guest reviewers V and M and SS! G, who picked up the cheesecakes, also sampled a cheese cup dessert - stay tuned for that blurb at the end!

Items on the menu: “Tcup” cheesecakes - V had the matcha flavour, M had Coffee Crisp, and SS had strawberry. Check their Instagram for more flavours - https://www.instagram.com/swiss2go/

Tell me more: Swiss 2 Go is a family-owned and operated cafe in the Beverly community that opened in 2012, and serves up Swiss-style sandwiches, soups, salads and desserts. Their ingredients are locally sourced by their lovely owner Drita, who is responsible for making Swiss 2 Go’s tasty treats as well! G had the opportunity to meet Drita when picking up the cheesecake for V, and had a delightful time getting to know her and bond over their sense of community! It is always great to meet the owners of family-run businesses and learn their story, and reinforces why it is so vital that we support small businesses during these challenging times.

So, how was it? Since the Tcup cheesecakes are so popular, Swiss 2 Go’s website recommends checking in ahead of time for availability before dropping by. We reached out by email a couple of days in advance before we needed to pick up the cheesecakes - if you don’t hear back in a day or two, we recommend giving them a call just to make sure! Be prepared that you may be asked to pay ahead of time (when picking up M’s cheesecake, we were told we would need to pay in advance if we intended to stop by after 3PM, and since we all work full-time this was our only option). Note that Swiss 2 Go’s hours are Tuesday - Friday - 10am to 6pm and Saturday - 10am to 7pm; they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. Picking up the cheesecakes themselves was a breeze, and there is a small parking lot out front, no worries there!

For our rankings, we’ll be looking at a few categories, taste, presentation, and value!

TASTE:

V: 3.5/5 - The texture was smooth and nice! I found the cheesecake to be too sweet, but that is just my personal preference. I typically prefer things that are more subtly sweet, so I would have liked to taste a stronger matcha flavor! I am a big fan of anything matcha related, and I like it when it is more heavy handed in desserts.

M: 4.5/5 - Coffee is the first note that hits you. The coffee crisp candy itself is not very crispy, but I think that’s because it’s been on the cheesecake - but it was a nice touch! I liked the brownie base - it was a nice touch and a good change in texture! Overall, I find the flavor to be perfect, and not too rich. The chocolate taste is very subtle - if you like coffee, you will like this!

SS: 3.5/5 - Keep in mind that I do not have a huge sweet tooth. It was good, but too sweet overall (especially the part that I think is the fruit puree). It also seemed like there was too much of a "jelly" taste to it or maybe just a tad too much gelatin (just my personal opinion). Though the chocolate saucer was very good.

PRESENTATION:

V: 5/5 - Carefully shaped, well crafted. Loved how they made the design to be a purse sitting on top of a teacup! I liked how everything was edible - the waffle doubled as decoration, the flower and the plate were all white chocolate… all attention to detail! You could also add the white chocolate to hot chocolate with hot milk for an extra treat!

M: 5/5 - The presentation was great, especially because it was a single cake in a box - it stayed put and that allowed it to transport well! I liked the little cup it sat in as well.

SS: 5/5 - It was beautifully crafted. Words can't really do it justice.

VALUE: We did not ask V, M or SS to rate value as these were gifts from us to them! However, for our readers - the T-cup cheesecakes were $16.99 each + GST!

FINAL THOUGHTS: Would you get another cheesecake again?

V: Yes! I would try the other flavors. There is a wide selection full of delectable flavors on their Instagram! I would try some of the citrus or tart fruit flavors, like lime and raspberry.

M: YES, absolutely!! More cheesecake please! I want to try all the flavours!

SS: Yes! I would like to try some of the other flavours. They also make great gifts.

BONUS BLURB

On a whim, G also picked up one of their cheesecake-in-cup desserts to try! Pictured is the chocolate brownie flavour.

TASTE: 4/5 - Overall, I enjoyed it - I didn’t find this too sweet, despite its chocolatey-ness (is that the scientific term?) It was rich, and a bit more like having chocolate cream cheese as opposed to a chocolate cheesecake. Because I am a sucker for brownies, I gave it an extra 0.5 for the brownie inside!

PRESENTATION: 4.25/5 - Neatly packaged and super easy to transport, which was a definite plus!

VALUE: 3.25/5 - This cost $11.54, and typically for a dessert this price, I’d like for it to also help improve my posture, fix my hair, or something else extra hehe…. But jokes aside, although it’s a bit on the steeper end, it is also important to consider the time and ingredients that go into making these desserts. While I expected a slightly lower price point, at the end of the day, I didn’t have regrets.
