THE YEG CRONUT QUEST: WINNERS

So ladies and gentlemen, we have now completed our YEG Cronut Quest - where we were on a mission to find the best cronuts in Edmonton. For those of you who need a reminder of what exactly a cronut is, they are a croissant donut hybrid - featuring the shape and flavor of a donut, but encompassing the flaky and light texture of a croissant. 

Now we would like to summarize our Cronut Quest for you all...with winners in the following categories!

TASTE: The winner is…. Farrow! 

B: Awesome flavour, nice crunch, and flaky interior. One of my favourite cronuts from this adventure! C: The Farrow cronuts were the clear winner in this category for me! They embodied what I thought a true cronut would be like - light, flaky, but still had that donut feel. G: Farrow struck the best balance for me. Just the right amount of sweetness, flakiness and overall tastiness! 

PRESENTATION: The winner is…. Ohana! 

B: What a work of art. Very creative and appealing. Definitely stands out! C: Ohana’s cronuts were beautiful and alluring! Definitely made me excited to take my first bite. G: Ohana knocked it out of the park in presentation - IMO, the most Instagrammable choice!

VALUE: The winner is…. Safeway! 

B: You cannot go wrong with a “cronut” for this price! Good taste to value ratio. C: A clear winner in this category… approx $1 for such a yummy snack?! Sign me up! G: This was the easiest decision ever. If you want to save some cash, you can’t go wrong with Safeway’s option. A dollar well spent! 

BONUS:

And now for some bonus cronut encounters and reviews! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try out all of the following cronuts together, but we thought we would showcase them here (they are too pretty to not show off!) along with our thoughts:

Butterbeer Cronut (from Ohana!):

B: It was definitely a fun cronut to try! It had a nice flavour to it but definitely too sweet for me. 

Peaches N’ Cream Cronuts (from Farrow!):

B: This is one of the best cronuts I have ever had. It was peachy,  creamy, and delicious. What a delectable bite. I wish they had this alllllllllllll the time. C: These cronuts had peach jam inside, with a cream cheese icing and a fuzzy peaches candy on top! OH MY GOODNESS, I enjoyed this cronut so so much! It was the right amount of sweetness along with a tangy taste from the jam. 5/5 for me overall! 

Pumpkin Cheesecake Caramel Cronut (from Farrow!):

B: I enjoyed this cronut! The pumpkin filling inside is quite nice if pumpkin is your thing. And of course, it still has all the qualities you want from a Farrow cronut.
